Welcome to the Queen’s Gambit Learning Center!

The Queen’s Gambit is one of the oldest chess openings, popular at all levels of chess. It lends itself to a more positional style of player, although there are many lines with complex tactical positions.

The Queen’s Gambit has numerous sub-variations so can be considered a broad umbrella term for an opening. Blacks second move response can considerably affect the nature of the game that follows.

The idea of the Queen’s Gambit is to:

  • Exchange a White wing pawn (c4) for a Black center pawn (d5), increasing Whites dominatino of the center with a potential e4.
  • Not actually gambit the pawn, since it can be easily regained.
